WordPress version 4.8 is available now. One of the most impactful changes is the Text Widget. The previous text widget has been replaced with the Rich Text Widget.

- This feature deserves a parade down the center of town! Rich-text editing capabilities are now native for Text widgets. Add a widget anywhere and format away. Create lists, add emphasis, and quickly and easily insert links. Have fun with your newfound formatting powers, and watch what you can accomplish in a short amount of time.
In theory this sounds like a great idea. However in practice has caused some issues. Many developers used the previous text widget in sidebars to code in HTML. With this change it appears to be breaking the code thus causing issues on many websites. There is is a fix being worked on for version 4.8.1. I’d recommend waiting to upgrade till 4.8.1 is generally available.
